Wedding Date of Hanna Kate Bowers & Michael David Calvo
Friday evening, May 29, 2015
The Venue
The Merrimon-Wynne House, downtown Raleigh in the historic district. Both the wedding and reception will be at the Merrimon-Wynne. The history of the mansion is interesting (read here) - the house was actually moved to the present location, which is a block from the Lieutenant Governor's house and two blocks from the Governor's house.
Why we chose it: We love downtown Raleigh, and we met in downtown Raleigh. This old mansion has beauty, charm, history, plus traditional southern porches, which we've both come to appreciate. Our ceremony will be outside on the lawn, and the food and bar will be inside the mansion. Dancing inside and out... Parking is free. The R Line bus (free) comes within a block of the venue, for those staying downtown.
Where to stay
Click the "Accommodations" tab for hotels. We cannot stress enough to book early. The Iron Man race will literally take over all hotels. We have room blocks at a few different places downtown, but the number of rooms is limited due to the race.
The Photographer
Heba Salama Photography. My mom and I met Heba at a wedding show and were immediate fans. She's a photographer/business owner from Chapel Hill, NC, and Mike and I are very excited to have her as our engagement and wedding photographer.
The Food
We have lots of tasting and sampling to do. At this point, we do know a couple of things: There will be food. The food will be tasty. Beverages? Alcohol is allowed at the Merrimon-Wynne House - yay.
Music & Merriment
Of course!
The Cake
We found another entrepreneur in a wedding show that impressed us - and Randi's cake samples were fabulous. My parents, Mike, and I had a cake testing session and it was unanimous - Sugar Euphoria in Raleigh is our unanimous choice for something sweet at our reception.
Attendants
Bride's: Elyse Phillips (Zebulon, NC); Liz Parrish (Washington, DC); Brooke Bennett (Raleigh, NC); Megan Braden (Billings, MT)
Groom's: Rock Edwards (Raleigh NC); Matt Altimare (Lansdale, PA); Ryan Lynch (Ebansburg, PA); Dave John (Bethlehem, PA)
Our Colors
In case anyone is curious, our wedding colors are Navy and Cream, with Gold accents.
Our Wedding Planner
That would be Cindy & Gary Bowers. That's right, Hanna's parents. Pinterest meets Excel spreadsheet. And Karen Calvo will be making a few trips to the Raleigh area to participate in some of the pre-wedding DIY projects.
